Enjoy the video, Letters For Santa:
Letters to Santa Video Link
For the past 5 years, the La Crescenta Library has celebrated the holiday season with a festive Christmas Tree lighting ceremony. From the beginning, I would be there for days making sure the decorations were just right in preparation for the annual tree lighting event. This year as with everything else, changes had to be made. The tree went up, the lights went on, and the Christmas season's look was a glow in the Library's courtyard. But, what could we do differently this year and still be safe from COVID.
One day I was there fixing the reindeer's lights, a little girl walked by and placed a letter in Santa's mailbox. At that moment, the idea came to life. We need to get Santa to read all the letters placed in the mailbox. So, "Letters to Santa" video was started. Through simple Facebook posts, an excellent article from the local CV Weekly, and word of mouth, the letters began to fill the mailbox. Santa's mailbox is located next to the La Crescenta Christmas Tree. Over the years, we have had Santa and Mrs. Claus take photos with families at the lighting ceremony. I reached out to the Clauses about making a video for the community; they were thrilled. Typically the Sant and Mrs. Claus come to take photos before the ceremony. The letters were not just from kids. There are messages to first responders, local businesses, and letters of hope from the community. The comments and messages are so encouraging. I hope you will watch the video, and this puts a little holiday smile on your face.
